With the consent of patients our GPs, clinicians and administrators have the ability to directly refer patients for a social prescription with Care Merseyside.
What is social prescribing?
Social prescribing is providing an alternative or a complement to traditional family GP health care. We are huge advocates of the power of social prescribing and established a dedicated social prescribing charity in the region in 2018.
Social prescribing aims to connect people, reduce loneliness, provides a platform to learn new skills, improves mindset, increases well-being and aims to be a source of support and community.
Courses and Activities at Care Merseyside
Social prescribing provides courses such as floristry, makeup, stress and well-being, drumming, cooking and more to help patients learn something new and connect with local people.
Care Merseyside can also refer patients to helpful services such as confidential debt advice, the food bank, housing support and employability services.
Weekly meet-ups and clubs include the Knowsley Veteran’s Hub NAAFI meetings, creative writing classes, exercise groups and more.
A twice weekly community shop is housed in Tower Hill Community Centre in partnership with The Big Help Project. Members pay £3.50 per week to gain access to £15-£20 worth of high quality fresh food produce and toiletries.
With low cost community massage, low carb nutrition group for type 2 diabetics and fitness classes there is something for all at Care Merseyside.
